“MUSED” features portraits that combine the Baroque elements and techniques of Boyuk’s classical training with modern subjects. Using the opulent patterns, luxurious materials and dignified poses of Edwardian and Victorian portraiture, her portrait series captures the cultural identity and self-expression of the people in Gen Z. The work asks who we as a society deem important enough for painted portraiture, and what the genre looks like when our answers don’t have prerequisites like age, class and status.
